Lore & universe

How One Potato Lost Signal and Found a Whole Cast

A loose, ongoing timeline of the WiFiPotato universe. It updates whenever the router does something suspicious.

The timeline

Days in the Life of a Spud

  1. Day 1

    The Router Blinks

A potato moves into a small apartment with one outlet and one very old router. The light turns amber. Nobody knows why. This is the beginning of everything.

  2. Day 3

    The Hallway Pilgrimage

WiFiPotato discovers that signal is strongest while standing on a chair near the bathroom. A ritual is born, and the neighbors have questions.

  3. Day 7

    Notifications Attack

Notification Nugget arrives with forty-six friends. They bring nothing urgent. They stay for eight hours. WiFiPotato learns the word 'later'.

  4. Day 12

    The AI Offers Help

A helpful machine generates a plan to optimize the potato's life. The plan has 214 steps. Step one is waking up earlier. WiFiPotato closes the tab.

  5. Day 21

    Sleep Mode Discovered

Sleep Mode Spud shuffles in wearing a blanket and does absolutely nothing all day. It is the healthiest anyone has been in three weeks.

  6. Day 30

    WiFiPotato Starts a Band

Armed with a keytar and a cassette drum machine, the potatoes write their first song: a nine-minute ballad about a loading bar. It slaps.

  7. Day 60

    The Network Grows

More spuds keep showing up — each one carrying a different flavor of modern tech fatigue. The closet becomes a studio. The studio becomes a universe.

Themes

What It's Actually About

Tech fatigue

The low hum of being reachable forever. Not a crisis, just a tiredness that hums at the same pitch as a router fan.

Humor as a hug

Every joke has to leave the reader feeling seen rather than roasted. If it punches down, it doesn't get drawn.

Creativity anyway

The potatoes keep making things — bands, comics, terrible songs — because making things is how they survive the feed.

Comics, episodes & songs

The Slate

Everything below exists in some form: a sketchbook, a storyboard, or a voice memo recorded at an unwise hour.

Comic

Ep. 01 — Have You Tried Turning It Off?

RouterRoot gives the same advice four times. It works on the fourth. Nobody discusses it again.

In the oven

Animation

Ep. 02 — Notification Nugget's Big Day

A tiny gremlin becomes convinced that a calendar invite is a personal emergency.

Storyboarding

Song

Buffering (feat. The Spuds)

Nine minutes of synth about a loading bar that never fills. Surprisingly emotional.
